Ira Samuel Slack — well known and established painter and clothes designer in Hollywood — was born in Vermont in 1890 and died in Los Angeles, CA in 1956. He studied at the San Francisco Art Institute and later moved to Los Angeles around 1915.
Slack exhibited his paintings at Stanford University in 1940, the Golden Gate International Exhibition, the Painter's & Sculptors Club, and many galleries throughout Los Angeles during the 1930's and 40's. Slack was a member of the Painters & Sculptors Club in Los Angeles. His most prolific painting period appears to be from 1935 to 1945 from which he produced his best work in a very loose, impressionistic style. Slack made painting trips to the Kings Canyon area of California, the interior valleys of the Los Angeles area, Palm Springs and the hills of Hollywood, as well as coastals along the Southern California beaches.
He signed his paintings with block letters "Ira S. Slack".
